WEB Investigations on possible joining processes for lightweight body structures using in commercial vehicles in municipal service operations
Wednesday (29.04.2020) 15:00 - 15:20 Room 1In the manufacture of electrically powered urban commercial vehicles for municipal service operations, the battery pack weight has to be compensated by new construction or material designs to allow approximately similar effective payloads compared with conventional vehicles in steel construction. Hybrid material combinations such as fibre composites made of thermoplastic matrix and glass fibre reinforcement as well as light metals such as aluminium alloys offer this possibility.
New material combinations also require the use of alternative joining technologies, since conventional welding is not possible. Within the scientific study, different joining processes have to be analysed under the basic conditions of job-shop manufacturing. Comparative test results of structural bonding, thermal direct joining with HPCi® technology and mechanical joining will be shown focussing on mechanical tests with and without artificial aging. These values form the basis for a subsequent simulation of the load behaviour of the joints using the finite element method.
