WEB Study on Water Jet Cutting of Fibre-Reinforced-Plastics-Metal-Laminates
Wednesday (29.04.2020) 15:40 - 16:00 Room 1The use of hybrid components made from metal and fibre-reinforced-plastics (FRP) is growing but obstructed by cost and economical efficient processing. A typical process step needed to manufacture hybrid components is trimming before and after consolidation of the materials. There are several cutting processes possible on hybrid metal-FRP but with a wide range of different process characteristics. A process used in several industries at small to medium scaled productions is water jet cutting. This paper shows the water-jet cutting process related dependences on the failure behavior of two dimensional specimens of different steel and FRP materials. With regards to vary the layering of steel and FRP the failure modes are described via quality characteristics like surface roughness, trueness and precision of the cut as well as influences of aging processes.
