Hybridisation of materials enables high potentials for automotive components, as it eases the finding of compromise in terms of structural integrity, comfort or reliability. However combining two different materials requires distinct process and material knowledge, since it also requires a full understanding of the interface and the interaction of both materials. In order to provide an insight into the particular requirements and challenges of automotive structures, examples for hybridisation in door and seat components are presented. A special focus lies on intrinsic processing of fibre-reinforced polymers. Furthermore, the perspectives and challenges of in-situ processes for metal-frp components are discussed.
